Robinson Crusoe

This was an excellent book especially when you take into consideration the time period at which it took place. It is most definitely a book that I would recommend to my peers. Especially if they desire a factual adventure. The things that I liked most about this book is the fact that it was actually a true story, and that it was well documented in great detail. There is also the fact that the story took place on an actual island that is off the coast of south America. Some of the things that I found surprising about the facts in this book is that the facts found in this book are varied, and cover a multitude of subjects. For example, Robinson Crusoe plants stakes into the ground of a certain type of tree which over time grows to be a dense wall of trees. Later in time scientists had found that such an act is possible with that specific breed of tree. Another example of a fact that is introduced thru this book is that African natives are willing to trade food for animal skins. This was showed when Crusoe shot a lion, and traded it for food with the African natives. Reading this book also changed my opinion on adventure and what it is made up of completely. This because before this book I thought that adventure was merely courage, glory, discovery, and love. Yet this book showed adventure for what it really is. Adventure is taking risks, and enduring thru trials even if you truly do not want to. Adventure is also being creative so as to be able to survive a trial if the need is there for it. This book also showed that adventure can definitely still be adventure without the aid of love. This book also showed that adventure can definitely still be adventure without the aid of love. Something else that this book did is increase my interest in the subject of travel. Throughout this book the reader sees the main character traveling constantly, from one continent to the next. This perks my interest because I originally did not know that Europeans in general knew so much about the dimensions of the earth, and its' different lands. This lead me to appreciate all the different types of transportation that we have available to us now in modern times, and has now made me yearn to travel abroad and learn of different cultures where ever they may be found. Overall this book will have a profound effect on those that can understand, and appreciate it for the good book that it truly is.

The Lost World

Reflection
This book was just awesome. It was full of adventure, mess-ups, genetic fiction, and best of all dinosaurs. One of the things that I love most about this book is the fact that Micheal Crichton makes it seem genetically possible to re create dinosaurs. This book is also awesome because of the fact that it is full of animal behaviors, and explanations for these behaviors. Yet the best thing of all about this book is it's adventure that it seems to be so full of. This is most definitely a book that I would recommend to my peers. Especially if they want a book to read that is good enough to stay all night up for. Some thing that was definitely unique about the book was it's setting. The beginning of the book begins at a university in the united states of America. Then the story takes you to the forests of Costa Rica, and lastly to an island setting for the remainder of the story. This island is called “ Isla Nublar” located off the coast of Costa Rica, in a chain of islands called, “ Los Cinco Muertos” which is Spanish for the five deaths. Something else that worth mentioning is the fact that thru out the story many of the characters change. They change in their view point of each other, and and their view point on life. One example of such a change is the Main character Ian Malcolm. He began the story with little more than a skeptical eye for dinosaurs, and that they had been re-created. Yet b y the end of this story he had full belief in the dinosaur's re-creation, and had an enhanced appreciation for life itself. The next example of a character that had changed thru out the story is the character Sarah Harding. He was previously a field scientist that documented the behaviors of a large range of carnivores, and believed that all carnivores of any time period followed the general same traits of behavior. Yet by the end of this novel she has learned that hunters of times past are nothing like the hunters of modern day, they are more rage full, and chaotic. Not only that but she too learned a new respect for life, and all that it inhabits. In conclusion this book is not just only a good read but one of the best reads that you , or anyone can lay their hands, and eyes upon.
